This one had me foxed for a while. There isn’t a company call BCM Telecommunications providing telephone services in York. But then Wikipedia leapt to the rescue with this scholarly statement based on an old news article: “In 1997, Mercury was merged with three cable operators in the UK (Vidéotron, Nynex, and Bell Cablemedia) and renamed Cable & Wireless Communications.”
I’m beginning to doubt that there really is a magical kingdom hidden beneath our feet. Perhaps it’s just old holes left by (sometimes defunct) utility companies.
Who stole the wonder from the world?
You’ll be telling me next that there’s no Santa Claus and that parents made up the Tooth Fairy to get children to stop crying!
