When I was a kid, it was easy to swat flies away. One wave of the arm and they went. And they didn’t come back.
I also found that English flies are amenable to being herded. If you swatted one in a particular way, it went in a particular direction. You could direct English flies to the open door or window and they would politely exit the building.
When I went to Continental Europe, I found that Mainland European flies are different. They refuse to go away. Swat them, and they come back, swat them again, and they come back again. Wave your hand at them a third time and they might, just might stay away.
I’ve noticed that these unherdable flies have arrived in England this year. We have been invaded by Continental flies! Either thatΒ or English flies have learnt bad habits from their continental cousins.
Does anyone out there know anything about this? Has it been in the news? Please let me know!
On a totally unrelated note, SOMEONE owes me a nursery rhyme π

You know, that’s still on my mind, and I think about it every other day, but it seems like a very hard thing to do. Tell you what – I promise to do it before tomorrow comes – how does that sound? π

Hahaha no pressure!! Take your time, but just don’t forget. I do know how hard nursery rhymes can be π

I was wondering how Brexit (Britain exiting the EU would affect these Continental flies. Would they all have to go back to their country of origin and get a visa before they are allowed back? π

Now that’s an interesting question! So Britain is housing immigrant flies now that the ties have been cut… Should have just taken the Syrians instead π

Ha! True that. The Syrians have never done me any harm and so yeah, I’d swap them any day for these dratted flies! π

Evidently, we have Continental flies in Scotland. Maybe, like the majority of us, they’d prefer to stay in Europe?

Ha! I wondered when someone was going to link this post to Brexit! π
And yes – I’d prefer for the UK to stay in the EU too. I’m all for unity. We might not agree, therefore, on the subject of an Independent Scotland. π Just a guess.
I don’t know much about flies in Scotland – I kinda presumed the midges had eaten them all!
