There are organisations in and around York and the UK that give money to writers. Here’s a selection:
- Arts Council England (https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/) – fund individuals to the tune of between £2,000 and £10,000 for projects that last up to a year. Writers are included on the list of eligible applicants
- The Society of Authors (https://www.societyofauthors.org/Grants) – give money to writers. Not sure how much because all the detail is on a sixteen minute podcast that I don’t really have the time to listen to
- English Pen (https://www.englishpen.org/grants/pen-translates/) – only has grants for UK publishers to meet the costs of translating new works into English. So that’s that
- National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE) (https://www.nawe.co.uk/) – don’t seem to give money away directly but hold a stonkingly good list of organisations that do. I would suggest that this be the first door you knock on.
And that’s about all I have time (or the inclination) for now.
