When I finished (and passed) my O (Ordinary) Levels they asked me what subjects I wanted to do for my A (Advanced) Levels and so I said English, Biology and Economics because those were the subjects I found interesting and had an aptitude for.
No, they said, you’ll never get a job with those subjects. So I ended up taking (and failing) Maths, Physics and Economics.
Three university degrees later, one of which is a Masters in Creative Writing (which is a bit like English) I’m still fully employed and have finally found out what all the tenses are in English.
