Eva (not her real name) asked me why I blog.
It was, I guess, revenge for me asking her the same question, so I can’t really complain. In fact, I’m glad she asked because I’d never really thought about it before.
Anyhoo – this is what I said (copied and pasted from my comment on her blog (which is still in moderation as I type)):
I’m just recording thoughts and impressions that I would otherwise have forgotten in the hope that they will be useful to my future self (and perhaps to other people (although that’s a long shot)).
I mean, you ever do something completely ordinary in a place and then visit it a few years later and it’s changed completely (or even been demolished) and you think to yourself ‘oh, I wish I’d taken a photograph’ or ‘I wish I’d paid more attention to how I felt’? Well, it’s a bit like that.
Robert C Day.
Also, sometimes, when I post on other people’s blogs, my comments get deleted or censored or sh..tuff. Can’t do nowt about that, but it’s nice to have a backup all the same, innit.
The best answer so far! Haha. That was what i was about to say too when you asked but i couldn’t put it into words as good as you did.
Blogging is really a good platform for memories (and something else our unpredictable minds may choose to forget!) soo i totally agree 👏👏👏

Aw. You’re kind, Eva – thanks for saying that. And you’re also too modest. 😉

May I ask you a personal question, Kamal?

Yes why not Robert.

Well, you see, it’s like this – I have no idea whether Kamal is a boy’s name or a girl’s name. So I wondered if you could tell me. Unless it’s something you don’t want known, in which case – forget I said anything.

Robert you need to tell me who I am cause you have been to India and as you said have worked in Poona which is a place that I always love as it is better than our Mumbai and you must have met many Hindus who go by the name Kamal. So you guess then I will tell you.

Now you see – I have put you out. Sorry about that. I would guess Kamal to be boy and Kamala to be girl.

Its okay now I will tell you cause you are confused, I am a woman and am a Zoroastrian by birth, so in our community Kamal stands for a girl and in Hindus Kamal stands for a boy. So now put you at ease. Kamala too is a Hindu name.

Despite the Hindu naming convention I suspected this because you are so very … vibrant. 🙂

Thank you so much dear Robert and same goes for you too. Nice to be happy and vibrant instead of being grim and dull in life. Life is short so why not enjoy. Have a lovely day.

It’s interesting that you say that, Yassy, because I self-censor quite severely and, at times, I feel anything but fun. But I try. 🙂

Be yourself , Robert.. that’s what is so uniquely beautiful.. and don’t self censor. Please don’t.

I’ll try. I have dark corners, much like anyone does. But I’ll try to tell my truth.

Everybody has darkness in them. It’s creative energy in a badass way.

Perhaps, then, I need to learn how to disguise it in inventive and creative ways; inside poems and stories that are in the second and third person (never the first (never me)). Yeah, that could totally work. You ever do that yourself, Yassy?

I am brave enough to do in the first person , Robert.
Why be scared. Writers, poets should not be. We are real people ? Aren’t we?
You do write well. I like your sarcasm. Sense of humour and presence of mind.

But surely something must be disguised. Sometimes I have feelings towards people that would hurt them if they were to be written about. Often, those feelings are temporary and so deserve to sit on their own in a corner and die. But some feelings are terrible ogres that consume me and would consume their target if I let them out. An ogre is a fearsome beast!
